Easter Sunrise Service at
Saint Paul AME |
Performing on Easter Sunday at 6:30
am seemed painfully early to me until I experienced
the warmth and passionate spirituality of Saint Paul
AME. Then it felt like a blessing to be able to sing
for their wonderful congregation who later expressed
how much they appreciated and enjoyed having us there.

Inner Faith Music Alliance
revival with Dr. Lonnie McCowan, Pastor, Teacher |
I just love a small intimate setting like the sanctuary
for Church of God in Christ. The congregation wasn’t
much larger in number than our choir, but they made up
for it in spirit and volume. It was a pleasure singing
our high-energy songs in that setting, especially once
Bessie Murphy got them going. The powerful message that
Dr. McCowan gave at the end of the evening was the icing
on the cake.

I had a lovely time singing at the "Chalk 4
Peace" event with the Inner Light Choir. What better
cause to sing for than world peace and opening the door
for children to become aware that they too can make
a difference. It was a beautiful day and view at our
beach here in Santa Barbara with the smiles and laughter
of children all around.

Songs: I have a Savior, Perfect
Praise, I Don't Want No Trouble at the River, Oh Jesus,
I Got Shoes
Everything about this trip was incredible. Even getting
there was fun! What could have been a difficult drive
into the heart of LA was blessed with light traffic
and good conversation as we van-pooled down. The hospitality
of the church was amazing. They were so welcoming and
served us lunch (fried chicken) before the concert.
We were guests for their Senior Choir’s anniversary.
Many of these ladies had to be in their 80’s,
but they all had great energy and voices. A real treat
to listen to. (There were also some amazing HATS in
the audience!) When it was our turn, we got to perform
several of my favorites. Dorothy Shell accompanied us
when we preformed her song “I Got Shoes”,
which the congregation loved. On the way home half us
us stopped in at “Rosco’s” restaurant
for their famous chicken dinner.
When I compare what I’ve been media-fed about
“South Central LA” with my wonderful experience,
there’s a complete disconnect. Important to keep
in mind as we watch the news.

Christmas performance at the Mormon
Church |
Songs: King of Kings, Joy, Amen
It was a beautiful beginning for the holiday
season at the Mormon
Church. The displays for the “Celebration of the
Nativity" were awesome! I felt blessed to participate
in our choir and the songs were very spiritual and beautiful!
Our Mama’s Voices were also amazing and their
harmony was wonderful!

Christmas performance
at Garden Court |
One of my favorite events of the
Christmas season is the annual Christmas Concert and
Craft Fair at Garden Court, and this year proved no
exception. The warmth and welcome of the residents and
staff were evident from the moment we walked in. We
had fun visiting with the residents and with each other
while enjoying the great refreshments. The Christmas
decorations made the atmosphere warm, homey and informal,
which I enjoy over our more formal concerts. The popular
craft fair with items handmade by the residents made
the purchased gifts even more special knowing that the
proceeds go to a local benefit. Our singing generated
a lot of energy! So many people thanked us for coming
and singing, but I felt we were the ones that were blessed.
I never miss this annual event.

Christmas performance with Soul
Choir at SoHo |
The Inner Light Choir was privileged to join Dauri
Kennedy and the Soul Choir. Those in attendance were
truly captivated and many seemed to be mesmerized by
what was taking place. Lisa gave her all as she sang
the solo on “Jesus is the Reason”. Kirk
Franklin would have been proud to hear his work presented
this way. The enthusiasm was great and the energy level
was high. John outdid himself, as his fingers seemed
to magically go up and down the keyboard producing a
magnificent sound. Dauri's presentation of "Oh
Holy Night" got everyone in the true spirit of
Christmas. Let's not forget, Jesus is the Reason for
the Season.
Bernelle Williams, Choir Board Member

Christmas Concert
with Santa Barbara Soul Choir at Earl Warren Showgrounds |
Songs 1st set: Jesus is the Reason, Go Tell it on
the Mountain, Hallelujah Chorus, Sweet Little Jesus
Boy, Jesus What A Wonderful Child, Silent Night, Til
we Meet Again 2nd set: Joy, Go tell it on the mountain,
Joy to the World, Jesus is the reason, King of Kings,
Silent Night, Until We Meet Again
I couldn't have selected a better way to end our Christmas
concert series than to sing outdoors at the Earl Warren
Showgrounds amist hand-crafted holiday gifts, holiday
treats and ice skaters. The sights and sounds were truly
the traditional wonders of a winter wonderland except
I felt warm both from the temperature and the meaning
of the songs we sang.
