Opening for the Odetta Concert
at the Lobero on January 17, 2008
|
COMMENTS ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE
You were fabulous last night!!!!! I am so
delighted to be a part of this organization. I heard several
really nice comments as people huddled outside during
intermission and congratulate you on a wonderful performance.
All those extra rehearsals really paid off! Yeah for you!

Pat Heller, Choir Board Member
How splendid the choir was at the Odetta
concert. It was thrilling! You made Santa Barbara proud.
And what a treasure Odetta is!

Opening the show, bringing a note of community
connection and apt gospel affinity, the Santa Barbara
based Inner Light Comminity Gospel Choir sang up a kindly
storm.
Santa Barbara News-Press, Josef Woodard
The Inner Light Community Gospel Choir put
on a remarkable perofrmance.
Cliff Lambert, Endowment for Youth: interview on "In
Focus"KEYT program,
We appreciated the opportunity to sing with
a well-known elder who is considered a voice of our generation.
We took it very seriously and attended extra rehearsals
and worked extra hard. The band was incredible and as
singers, we really appreciate that. Peter’s energy,
encouragement, and compassion reflected in our ability
to be professional. We really nailed it this time. For
me as a participant, I thank everybody. We all worked
together and it showed.

Odetta heard most of the concert. She said “Plenty
Good Room” was amazing. She loved the song and she
loved the choir. Radoslav Lorkovic, the pianist for Odetta,
thought the whole band was great.
Peter Hernandez, Music Director
I very much appreciated all the preparation and planning
so there were no questions about anything expected from
us and I think that showed in our performance.
Leona Marie, choir member
As a brand new member, I was very honored to be given
a solo. The choir looked great.

I was a member of the choir
for about five years in the early 1990s. That night of
the Odetta concert, with Peter as the catalyst, I saw
such a vast improvement in ability and style that I wanted
to be up there singing with you. The choir was a most
impressive beginning for the Odetta program and I am now
inspired to come back and join the choir.
Sarah Boyjian, new choir member
Lottie Weinstein, former choir member in the 1980s, hadn’t
heard us in a very long time and she was absolutely blown
away. Several others came up to me and said it was our
best ever performance and stated that we had become so
professional. We are a community choir and we accept everybody
but when God is in the middle of it, it’s good.
And that’s what happened that night. God stepped
in and used every single one of our voices to reach the
audience. You could hear it in their reactions. The audience
was attentive and excited.

The singing song after song with no talking between
kept the choir’s energy at a level that improved
our performance ability incredibly.
Diane Kirkpatrick, choir Vice President
Dauri Kennedy said that the choir was really professional.
We may not be professional but we can certainly sound
professional.
