| Rev. Michelle Lawyer has been a member
of the Inner LightCommunity Gospel choir since it's inception
in 1980.
Singing musicals in high school and college, she was the first
African American woman to have a lead role in a non African American
production in the Des Moines Community Playhouse. She had her
own local band and started on an operatic career. She was flown
to Hollywood for the Nationally televised Arthur Godfrey show
but that taped segment never made it off the cutting room floor.
God then guided her back to her roots in Gospel music. She was
ordained a minister in 1981 and she has been singing Gospel music
ever since, knowing within her that this is a ministry.
